Many of us have read "The Giver," Lois Lowry's 1993 novel about a fictional society without war, sickness, or differences between people. The book has been a mainstay on middle-school reading lists in the US, Australia, and elsewhere since its release. A film adaptation of "The Giver," starring Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, and Brenton Thwaites is set to launch this August in theaters in the US and Australia.

On Wednesday, the second trailer for "The Giver" came out, and, despite my concerns about how well the book would translate to the silver screen, it looks like it's going to be pretty good.

The trailer shows Jonas, the main protagonist, meeting "The Giver" and discovering the knowledge of the world before society converted to "sameness," as well as the panic that Jonas' discovery causes with the Elders.

Check out the trailer in full below.
